The APS Student Nutrition team was awarded $45,610 for the New Mexico Grown program for the 2024-25 school year. Last week, one of our local farms, Nichols Ranch and Orchards, delivered fresh Fiji apples to our school to be distributed to the rest of the schools. The apples 🍎 went from their farm to our schools in less than 24 hours, and boy, were they delicious. 🤤
🍐Sierra Elementary kitchen manager Kim Maynez mentioned that receiving local, freshly picked fruit with a better taste was great. The kids thought it was fantastic that the apples came from a farm they could recognize. With this grant, the APS Student Nutrition Department plans to purchase New Mexico beef and other fruits and vegetables from across the state. 🥦
